Austin Blackwell,
video game sound designer

a bit about me

Hello! My name is Austin Blackwell. I am a sound designer living in Denver, Colorado. I have a passion for creative sound design and technical audio implementation for video games.

I graduated in May 2019 with a degree in Audio Engineering Technology from Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee. During my time in college I had the opportunity to explore a passion for sound design by working with the Belmont film program to provide audio for student films. On these productions I generally handled all aspects of audio production, from location sound, to sound design and re-recording mixing. During this time I was also able to take part in an internship with a local Nashville post-production studio, providing me with the opportunity to work with professional sound designers to design for movies, TV and local radio commercials.

During the pandemic, I started my own remote podcast post-production business. This experience brought me not only technical skills in dialogue processing but also soft skills in the form of extreme attention to detail, experience working within cross-discipline teams and client relations.

At the start of 2023, I began my journey to pivot to a career in video game sound design. During this time, I have continued to hone my sound design skills and learn new skills in technical audio implementation. This has brought me to my most recent contract with the Ubisoft published title "The Watch" where I am handling sound design for the development team. When I am not creating experimenting with new sound design techniques on my computer you can find me exploring my other passion of playing jazz piano and snowboarding.

Some of my technical skills include :
- Reaper DAW
- Creative sound design
- Wwise and FMOD
- Unity and Unreal Engine
- Unreal Engine Blueprints
- Unity C#
- Dialogue processing and cleaning
- Organization and batch processing of audio files
- Source control in Perforce and Github
- Asset tracking in Microsoft Excel

I am currently seeking a full-time position in the AAA space and would love to chat about my experience.
